Message from the Board

In 1943, my father J. Leland Behunin started his tree care business in Salt Lake City.  He was passionate
about the proper care of trees and shrubs.  He wanted to enrich his community and beautify the land around
him by educating his friends and neighbors in the proper landscape techniques of their landscaping.

His philosophies, combined with his unwavering dedication to perfection, changed his family's lives in
countless ways.  His humble vision and quest continues today through his family.

With 63 years of experience in growing beautiful plants, trees and flowers in this desert environment, we’ve
learned to appreciate my father's vision and even learned a few things.  

The goal of The J. Leland Behunin Horticultural Institute is to pass on to the community our experience and
knowledge and hopefully instill in people my father's passion and vision.  Together we can make Utah into
the garden it was meant to be.
